On the 40th anniversary of Maria Callas' death, Tom Volf presents "Maria by Callas", a film that reveals the woman behind the legend, intimate and unseen before now.
Everybody knows Maria Callas, the voice of the century, the diva on the front page of the magazines, the public persona. But this representation varies greatly from the stories told by those who knew her best, the stories describing a fragile woman and a hard-working artist.
Throughout her entire life she felt misunderstood and so tried to be heard through her own words. She said herself that she had a split personality, at times even an adversary: Maria and Callas. Tom Volf unites these two sides, revealing as he does so, the last of the divas. Told, for the first time, in the first person by using unseen footage from all over the world, kept secret for over 40 years by those closest to her.
With the voice of Fanny Ardant in the French version and Joyce DiDonato in the English version.
